This rug was woven by a woman.
Not in a factory. Not by machine. But by hand — on a loom, at home, in a village in Anatolia. Decades ago, Turkish women wove these rugs either to furnish their own homes or to contribute to the family's income. Each pattern was chosen by the weaver herself, each knot tied with her own hands. No two rugs were ever identical, because no two women wove the same way.
We source these rugs directly from old homes and private collectors across Turkey — places where these pieces have rested for 40, 50, sometimes 60 years. When we find one, it begins a journey before it reaches you.
First, we shake out decades of dust. Then we carefully shear the pile — what we call "hav" in Turkish — to bring the surface back to an even, clean finish. The rug is then washed and goes through a series of restoration steps. Finally, the edges are hand-stitched to ensure it arrives in your home structurally sound and ready to use.

✦ ABOUT THIS RUG
This semicircle rug was cut from an authentic Isparta carpet, hand-knotted in the Isparta region of southwestern Turkey sometime between the 1970s and 1980s. Isparta has been one of Turkey's most important carpet-weaving centers for over a century, known for its refined floral compositions and rich dye traditions.
The field of this piece has faded to a soft, almost ghostly blush peach — a pale, luminous tone that comes only from decades of natural aging. The original floral vine motifs are still visible as quiet shadows across the surface, present but not insistent, like a memory of the pattern that once was. The wide border is where the detail lives: large oval floral medallions sit on an ivory ground, each filled with layered flowers in warm rust, camel, sage green, and dusty rose, outlined in deep navy and dark brown. Between the medallions, fine geometric fill patterns complete the composition with careful, unhurried craft.
The palette of this rug is extraordinarily soft — washed peach, ivory, camel, sage — a combination that feels effortless against linen, natural wood, stone, and other quiet materials. Condition is good overall — pile is low and even after professional shearing and washing, edges are hand-stitched, and the piece is fully ready to use.

✦ THE MEANING BEHIND THE PATTERN
This rug is unusual among Isparta pieces in that its field has faded almost completely — leaving behind not a design, but the ghost of one. In Anatolian weaving tradition, this kind of aging was never considered damage. A rug that had faded was a rug that had lived. It had covered floors, absorbed footsteps, witnessed daily life. The fading was not loss — it was proof.
The oval medallion border that frames this piece carries one of the most ancient motifs in Turkish textile tradition: the cartouche, a contained, bounded field within which a flower unfolds completely. Each oval is a small world — a garden enclosed, protected, made permanent in wool. In Ottoman decorative tradition, the enclosed garden — the bahçe — was a symbol of paradise, of a place where beauty was held safe from the disorder of the world outside.
