✦ THE STORY BEHIND THIS RUG
This rug was woven by a woman.
Not in a factory. Not by machine. But by hand — on a loom, at home, in a village in Anatolia. Decades ago, Turkish women wove these rugs either to furnish their own homes or to contribute to the family's income. Each pattern was chosen by the weaver herself, each knot tied with her own hands. No two rugs were ever identical, because no two women wove the same way.

We source these rugs directly from old homes and private collectors across Turkey — places where these pieces have rested for 40, 50, sometimes 60 years. When we find one, it begins a journey before it reaches you.

First, we shake out decades of dust. Then we carefully shear the pile — what we call "hav" in Turkish — to bring the surface back to an even, clean finish. The rug is then washed and goes through a series of restoration steps. Finally, the edges are hand-stitched to ensure it arrives in your home structurally sound and ready to use.
What you receive is not just a rug. It is a one-of-a-kind textile that survived decades, was made by someone's hands, and was carefully prepared to live another chapter — in your home.
You will never find another exactly like it.

✦ ABOUT THIS RUG
This semicircle rug was cut from an authentic Isparta carpet, hand-knotted in the Isparta region of southwestern Turkey sometime between the 1970s and 1980s. Isparta has been one of Turkey's most important carpet-weaving centers for over a century, known for its refined floral compositions and rich dye traditions.

The field of this piece is a deep, aged crimson — the kind of red that only decades of use and natural light can produce. Across it, loose floral bouquets bloom in blush pink, sage green, and ivory, arranged in the relaxed, naturalistic style typical of Isparta weavings. The wide border that frames the lower edge carries a bold scrolling vine and geometric meander pattern in warm camel, amber, and black — a classic Ottoman border vocabulary rendered with confident, unhurried craft.

The colors have faded gracefully over time, giving the piece that quiet, lived-in warmth that no new rug can replicate. Condition is good overall — pile is low and even after professional shearing and washing, edges are hand-stitched, and the piece is fully ready to use.

✦ THE MEANING BEHIND THE PATTERN
The floral bouquet has been woven into Anatolian carpets for centuries — but in Isparta, it became something closer to a signature. The women of this region were known for their ability to translate garden imagery into wool: roses, tulips, and peonies rendered not as precise botanical drawings but as felt impressions of flowers, the way a garden looks when you remember it rather than when you photograph it.
In Anatolian weaving tradition, flowers were never merely decorative. The rose — gül in Turkish — was a symbol of divine beauty and earthly love simultaneously. A bouquet meant abundance, the hope that a home would always have enough: enough warmth, enough color, enough life. When a woman chose a floral pattern for her loom, she was making a quiet wish for the household that would one day walk across it.
The scrolling vine border that runs beneath the flowers is equally deliberate. In Ottoman decorative tradition, the endless vine — curling without beginning or end — represented continuity, the unbroken thread between generations. Together, the flowers and the vine tell a simple but enduring story: beauty renews itself, and the things made with care outlast the hands that made them.
When this piece enters your home, it carries that intention forward — placed at a threshold, it becomes exactly what it was always meant to be.
