✦ THE STORY BEHIND THIS RUG
This rug was woven by a woman.
Not in a factory. Not by machine. But by hand — on a loom, at home, in a village in Anatolia. Decades ago, Turkish women wove these rugs either to furnish their own homes or to contribute to the family's income. Each pattern was chosen by the weaver herself, each knot tied with her own hands. No two rugs were ever identical, because no two women wove the same way.
We source these rugs directly from old homes and private collectors across Turkey — places where these pieces have rested for 40, 50, sometimes 60 years. When we find one, it begins a journey before it reaches you.
First, we shake out decades of dust. Then we carefully shear the pile — what we call "hav" in Turkish — to bring the surface back to an even, clean finish. The rug is then washed and goes through a series of restoration steps. Finally, the edges are hand-stitched to ensure it arrives in your home structurally sound and ready to use.
What you receive is not just a rug. It is a one-of-a-kind textile that survived decades, was made by someone's hands, and was carefully prepared to live another chapter — in your home.

✦ ABOUT THIS RUG
This rug was hand knotted in Isparta, Turkey in 1979 — making it approximately 46 years old. Of all the neutral pieces in our current collection, this one makes the strongest visual statement.
The field is a bright, clean ivory — luminous and open, with the warm glow that only genuinely aged wool can hold. At the center, a large and dramatic medallion unfolds in deep charcoal gray — bold, formal, and precisely drawn. Radiating arabesque forms extend outward from the medallion in a classic Isparta composition, moving across the ivory field with confident symmetry. Corner spandrels anchor each edge with architectural precision.
The wide border is also deep charcoal gray — dense and grounding, filled with flowing botanical arabesque forms that move continuously around the perimeter. The contrast between the bright ivory interior and the dark charcoal border and medallion is striking and deliberate. This is not a quiet rug. It is one that commands attention without demanding it.
The wool surface is low and naturally distressed — the honest patina of nearly five decades of natural aging. The contrast remains vivid and present throughout.
