✦ THE STORY BEHIND THIS RUG
This rug was woven by a woman.
Not in a factory. Not by machine. But by hand — on a loom, at home, in a village in Anatolia. Decades ago, Turkish women wove these rugs either to furnish their own homes or to contribute to the family's income. Each pattern was chosen by the weaver herself, each knot tied with her own hands. No two rugs were ever identical, because no two women wove the same way.
We source these rugs directly from old homes and private collectors across Turkey — places where these pieces have rested for 40, 50, sometimes 60 years. When we find one, it begins a journey before it reaches you.
First, we shake out decades of dust. Then we carefully shear the pile — what we call "hav" in Turkish — to bring the surface back to an even, clean finish. The rug is then washed and goes through a series of restoration steps. Finally, the edges are hand-stitched to ensure it arrives in your home structurally sound and ready to use.
What you receive is not just a rug. It is a one-of-a-kind textile that survived decades, was made by someone's hands, and was carefully prepared to live another chapter — in your home.

✦ ABOUT THIS RUG
This rug was hand knotted in Isparta, Turkey in 1986 — making it approximately 39 years old. It is one of the most quietly contemporary pieces in our collection — a rug that looks as though it belongs in a modern interior as much as a traditional one.
The field is a softly faded gray taupe — warm and neutral, with subtle color variation across the surface from nearly four decades of natural aging. An all-over geometric arabesque repeat covers the entire field — small interlocking scroll and floral forms in dark chocolate brown and warm cream, arranged in a continuous, meditative grid from edge to edge. There is no central medallion. There is no border. Just pattern — dense, rhythmic, and endlessly repeating.
This borderless all-over composition is what makes this rug unusual. Most Turkish rugs of this era have defined borders and central medallions. This one does not. The result is a piece that reads almost like a textile or a wallpaper — graphic, modern, and versatile.
The wool surface is low and distressed, with natural color variation and gentle wear consistent with its age. There are two minor staining areas on the surface — small, visible upon close inspection, and fully disclosed here. They do not affect the overall impression of the rug at normal viewing distance.
