This rug was not woven for a home.
It was woven for a mosque.
In Turkish villages and towns, mosques have long been furnished with handwoven rugs — placed on the floor for daily prayer, for Friday gatherings, for the quiet moments between. These rugs were made to last, woven with the same care and skill as any domestic piece, but given with a different intention. They were an offering, as much as a floor covering.

This rug was hand knotted in Demirci, in the Manisa province of western Anatolia, in 1974. The original registration markings on its reverse confirm what it is and where it came from. It served inside a mosque for decades before it came to us.

We source these rugs directly from old homes, collectors, and — occasionally — from mosques and religious institutions across Turkey, where pieces are retired after years of faithful use. When we find one, it begins a journey before it reaches you.
First, we shake out decades of dust. Then we carefully shear the pile to bring the surface back to an even, clean finish. The rug is then washed and goes through a series of restoration steps. Finally, the edges are hand-stitched to ensure it arrives in your home structurally sound and ready to use.
What you receive is not just a rug. It is a piece of a place — woven for prayer, worn by time, and carefully prepared to live its next chapter in your home.

✦ ABOUT THIS RUG
This rug was hand knotted in Demirci, Manisa, Turkey in 1974 — making it approximately 51 years old. Demirci is a small weaving town in western Anatolia with a long tradition of producing high-quality hand knotted carpets. The rugs from this region are known for their dense knotting, durable wool, and restrained but elegant all-over compositions.
The field is a warm camel brown — deeply aged and atmospheric, with natural color variation across the surface from decades of use. An all-over botanical floral pattern covers the entire field — flowing stems, leaf forms, and small floral heads rendered in teal green, navy blue, and soft sage. There is no central medallion, no defined border — just a continuous, meditative all-over repeat that fills the space with quiet rhythm.
The wool surface is heavily distressed and very low — worn flat by years of prayer and foot traffic. This is not damage. This is history made visible in wool.
