✦ THE STORY BEHIND THIS RUG
This rug was woven by a woman.
Not in a factory. Not by machine. But by hand — on a loom, at home, in a village in Anatolia. Decades ago, Turkish women wove these rugs either to furnish their own homes or to contribute to the family's income. Each pattern was chosen by the weaver herself, each knot tied with her own hands. No two rugs were ever identical, because no two women wove the same way.

We source these rugs directly from old homes and private collectors across Turkey — places where these pieces have rested for 40, 50, sometimes 60 years. When we find one, it begins a journey before it reaches you.

First, we shake out decades of dust. Then we carefully shear the pile — what we call "hav" in Turkish — to bring the surface back to an even, clean finish. The rug is then washed and goes through a series of restoration steps. Finally, the edges are hand-stitched to ensure it arrives in your home structurally sound and ready to use.
What you receive is not just a rug. It is a one-of-a-kind textile that survived decades, was made by someone's hands, and was carefully prepared to live another chapter — in your home.

This piece was cut and shaped from a larger handwoven Isparta carpet — a deliberate upcycling process that gives a second life to exceptional vintage textiles. The semicircle form was carefully cut and the edges professionally hand-stitched, making it structurally sound and ready for daily use.

What makes this doormat quietly special is its palette. Decades of life have washed the forest green wool into a soft, muted hunter green — almost monochromatic, deeply calm. The cream border below carries intricate dark green botanical scrolls and a rosette medallion, framed by a precise geometric zigzag stripe. There is no loud color here, no sharp contrast — just the kind of understated, lived-in beauty that only time can create. This is the rug for someone who appreciates subtlety.
