Vintage Turkish hand-knotted semicircle rug in deep burgundy red and cream, 2.3x1.2 ft. Hand-knotted in Isparta technique, 1984.

✦ FROM THE HEART OF A LARGER STORY ✦
This deep burgundy and cream semicircle was woven in 1984 — entirely by hand, using pure wool and the timeless Isparta technique. It was once the corner of a full carpet, carrying within it a field of overlapping flowers — blooms tumbling over each other against a rich burgundy ground, framed by a slate blue border and a cream field alive with large red and green floral bouquets.
Rather than let this corner of history disappear, we carefully cut and professionally finished the edges into this perfect half moon form — preserving every inch of the original hand-knotted field.
For forty years these colors have deepened and settled. The burgundy has aged into something richer than new. The pile has worn very low — revealing the tight, dense knot structure beneath, giving the surface a beautiful worn quality unique to heavily aged hand-knotted wool. This is not a flaw. This is forty years of footsteps, love and time.
