Antique Hand Knotted Turkish Tribal Wool Runner — 101 x 283 cm / 40" x 111" / 3'4" x 9'3"
Antique dated 1956 Turkish tribal wool runner rug, natural root dyes, geometric medallion design — 101x283 cm, hand knotted in Baskil Elazığ Anatolia. Weaving date woven into the rug. Family heirloom, one of a kind.
✦ THE STORY BEHIND THIS RUG
In 1956, in the village of Yukarıkuluşağı in Baskil, Elazığ, a 14-year-old girl sat down at a traditional loom and began to weave. Her name is not written in any book. But her work is here, in front of you — every knot tied by hand, every color drawn from roots and plants, every geometric shape carried in her memory from the women who came before her.
She was born in 1942. She wove this rug at the age of 14. She is my aunt.
This rug has been in our family for 70 years. It is offered here for the first time — to someone who will understand what it means to own something truly irreplaceable.
The weaving year — 1956 — is hand-knotted directly into the rug field itself. This is an exceptionally rare feature in Anatolian tribal rugs and makes this piece uniquely datable and historically significant.
✦ ABOUT THE DESIGN
The rug features a bold terracotta red field with a central column of connected geometric tribal medallions in deep burgundy, ivory, and gold. A dark chocolate brown border with repeated stylized leaf, star, and botanical motifs frames the entire composition. The design reflects the authentic tribal weaving tradition of the Elazığ region — angular, bold, and deeply rooted in Anatolian folk art.
✦ MATERIALS & CONSTRUCTION
Hand knotted wool pile on wool foundation. All colors produced entirely from natural root dyes — no synthetic dyes of any kind. Woven entirely by hand using traditional techniques passed down through generations of Anatolian women.
✦ CONDITION & RESTORATION
This rug is 70 years old and has been lovingly used and preserved within our family. One to two areas of professional restoration are present and have been fully documented in separate listing photographs. We believe in complete transparency — the restoration is minimal and does not detract from the beauty or integrity of this extraordinary piece.
✦ PILE HEIGHT
Medium pile with naturally aged surface — 70 years of history give this rug a warm, rich patina that no new rug can replicate.
✦ DIMENSIONS
101 x 283 cm / 40" x 111" / 3'4" x 9'3"
Perfect for: hallways, living rooms, dining rooms, or as a collector's statement piece.

✦ A FINAL WORD
Somewhere in Baskil, Elazığ, a 14-year-old girl picked up her shuttle and began. Seventy years later, her work is still here — still warm, still alive, still speaking. We hope it finds a home worthy of its story.
