Vintage Turkish Runner Rug, Isparta Handwoven Wool Floral, Distressed Beige Brown, 75 x 185 cm / 29.5 x 72.8 in / 2.5 x 6 ft, Anatolian Botanical.
✦ THE STORY BEHIND THIS RUG
This rug was woven by a woman.
Not in a factory. Not by machine. But by hand — on a loom, at home, in a village in Anatolia. Decades ago, Turkish women wove these rugs either to furnish their own homes or to contribute to the family's income. Each pattern was chosen by the weaver herself, each knot tied with her own hands. No two rugs were ever identical, because no two women wove the same way.
We source these rugs directly from old homes and private collectors across Turkey — places where these pieces have rested for 40, 50, sometimes 60 years. When we find one, it begins a journey before it reaches you.
First, we shake out decades of dust. Then we carefully shear the pile — what we call "hav" in Turkish — to bring the surface back to an even, clean finish. The rug is then washed and goes through a series of restoration steps. Finally, the edges are hand-stitched to ensure it arrives in your home structurally sound and ready to use.
What you receive is not just a rug. It is a one-of-a-kind textile that survived decades, was made by someone's hands, and was carefully prepared to live another chapter — in your home.
You will never find another exactly like it.
✦ ABOUT THIS RUG
This runner was hand-knotted in Isparta — one of Turkey's most celebrated rug-weaving cities — and dates to 1982, making it approximately 40 years old. Isparta rugs are known for their fine knotting, rich floral compositions, and the quality of their Anatolian wool.
The field is a warm, deeply faded ivory beige — a color that has mellowed beautifully over four decades into something soft and almost ethereal. Across the entire surface flows a dense all-over pattern of botanical vines, flowers, and leaves, rendered in charcoal, mocha, and warm brown. The border is a rich warm brown, filled with floral cartouches that frame the composition with quiet elegance.
The rug carries an honest, natural distress — the kind that only comes with age and real use. The surface has a low, even pile with a gentle patina that gives it the soft, lived-in look that makes vintage pieces so sought after in modern neutral and farmhouse interiors.
✦ THE MEANING BEHIND THE PATTERN
The all-over botanical floral pattern on this runner is one of the most quietly powerful compositions in the Anatolian weaving tradition. Unlike medallion rugs that draw the eye to a single center, an all-over floral layout fills every inch of the field with life — vines branching in every direction, flowers blooming at every turn. In Turkish weaving culture, this kind of composition carries a specific meaning: abundance without hierarchy. Every corner of the rug is equally blessed.
The flowers themselves each carry weight. In Anatolian tradition, the rose speaks of love and the sacred. The carnation represents devotion and pride. The trailing vine — present in nearly every all-over Isparta design — symbolizes the continuity of life, the way one generation grows from the one before it.
A woman who chose this layout was not making a decorative decision. She was making a wish — that the home where this rug was laid would always be full. Full of warmth, of family, of beauty quietly growing in every direction.
In your home, that wish continues.
