✦ THE STORY BEHIND THIS RUG
This rug was woven by a woman.
Not in a factory. Not by machine. But by hand — on a loom, at home, in a village in Anatolia. Decades ago, Turkish women wove these rugs either to furnish their own homes or to contribute to the family's income. Each pattern was chosen by the weaver herself, each knot tied with her own hands. No two rugs were ever identical, because no two women wove the same way.
We source these rugs directly from old homes and private collectors across Turkey — places where these pieces have rested for 40, 50, sometimes 60 years. When we find one, it begins a journey before it reaches you.
First, we shake out decades of dust. Then we carefully shear the pile — what we call "hav" in Turkish — to bring the surface back to an even, clean finish. The rug is then washed and goes through a series of restoration steps. Finally, the edges are hand-stitched to ensure it arrives in your home structurally sound and ready to use.
What you receive is not just a rug. It is a one-of-a-kind textile that survived decades, was made by someone's hands, and was carefully prepared to live another chapter — in your home.
You will never find another exactly like it.

✦ ABOUT THIS RUG
This small rug is cut from a larger Isparta carpet, with all edges carefully finished. Of all the cut pieces in this collection, this one retains the most color — the terracotta field is still warm and present, the lavender and purple flower tones still vivid, the green leaf scrolls still deep. It sits at the more vibrant end of the vintage spectrum: aged enough to have character and warmth, colorful enough to be a genuine statement piece.
The design is an allover trailing vine — scrolling stems carrying a mix of floral forms across the terracotta field. Large iris-like flowers in lavender and purple sit alongside smaller camel and gold accents, connected by dark green leaf scrollwork that gives the composition rhythm and depth. The palette is rich, layered, and unapologetically romantic.
The rug is in good distressed condition — medium pile with natural wear, color vibrancy intact, structurally sound with finished edges.

✦ THE MEANING BEHIND THE PATTERN
The iris — "süsen" in Turkish — is one of the most beloved flowers in Anatolian weaving. In Ottoman court culture, the iris was a symbol of royalty and divine power, appearing on Iznik tiles, imperial textiles, and the robes of sultans. In village weaving, it carried a simpler meaning: beauty, dignity, and the hope that those who lived with it would flourish.
The lavender and purple tones of these flowers are rare in Anatolian rugs — purple dye was precious and difficult to achieve. That this rug carries it so generously speaks to the care the weaver put into her work. She wanted her home to be beautiful. She succeeded.
