This rug was woven by a woman.
Not in a factory. Not by machine. But by hand — on a loom, at home, in a village in Anatolia. Decades ago, Turkish women wove these rugs either to furnish their own homes or to contribute to the family's income. Each pattern was chosen by the weaver herself, each knot tied with her own hands. No two rugs were ever identical, because no two women wove the same way.

We source these rugs directly from old homes and private collectors across Turkey — places where these pieces have rested for 40, 50, sometimes 60 years. When we find one, it begins a journey before it reaches you.

First, we shake out decades of dust. Then we carefully shear the pile — what we call "hav" in Turkish — to bring the surface back to an even, clean finish. The rug is then washed and goes through a series of restoration steps. Finally, the edges are hand-stitched to ensure it arrives in your home structurally sound and ready to use.

What you receive is not just a rug. It is a one-of-a-kind textile that survived decades, was made by someone's hands, and was carefully prepared to live another chapter — in your home.

✦ ABOUT THIS RUG
This small rug is cut from a larger Isparta carpet — a common practice that gives oversized vintage pieces a second life in more versatile, modern formats. The edges have been carefully finished to ensure structural integrity. Because it comes from a larger piece, it has no border — the floral vine pattern runs freely to all four edges, giving it an open, contemporary feel that sets it apart from traditional bordered rugs.

The design is an allover trailing vine composition — ivory scrolling stems connecting rosette flowers and snowflake-like geometric blooms across a dusty pink field. The navy blue outlines give each motif sharp definition against the faded rose ground. Decades of natural aging have softened the original colors beautifully — the pink has quieted to a warm blush, the ivory has deepened slightly, and the navy has mellowed to a soft indigo.

The rug is in distressed condition consistent with age — low pile, natural fading, structurally sound with finished edges.

✦ THE MEANING BEHIND THE PATTERN
The trailing vine pattern — "rumi" in Ottoman artistic tradition — is one of the most beloved motifs in Anatolian weaving. The vine represents continuity, the unbroken connection between past and present. Each flower it carries is a moment of beauty along that thread.
In Isparta, floral vine compositions were associated with abundance and joy. The woman who wove the original carpet chose this pattern with intention — a field full of flowers, never ending, spreading in all directions. When this piece was cut and finished, that intention survived. It lives now in this small, quiet rug.
