This rug was woven by a woman.
Not in a factory. Not by machine. But by hand — on a loom, at home, in a village in Anatolia. Decades ago, Turkish women wove these rugs either to furnish their own homes or to contribute to the family's income. Each pattern was chosen by the weaver herself, each knot tied with her own hands. No two rugs were ever identical, because no two women wove the same way.
We source these rugs directly from old homes and private collectors across Turkey — places where these pieces have rested for 40, 50, sometimes 60 years. When we find one, it begins a journey before it reaches you.
First, we shake out decades of dust. Then we carefully shear the pile — what we call "hav" in Turkish — to bring the surface back to an even, clean finish. The rug is then washed and goes through a series of restoration steps. Finally, the edges are hand-stitched to ensure it arrives in your home structurally sound and ready to use.
What you receive is not just a rug. It is a one-of-a-kind textile that survived decades, was made by someone's hands, and was carefully prepared to live another chapter — in your home.

✦ ABOUT THIS RUG
This rug was hand knotted in Isparta, Turkey in 1980 — making it approximately 45 years old. Of all the neutral pieces in our current collection, this one is the most dramatically distressed — and the most quietly striking.
The outer border is a warm chocolate brown, dense and structured, punctuated with small white dot accents and botanical scroll motifs. It is the darkest element of the composition, and it frames what comes next with deliberate contrast.
Inside the border, the field has faded over 45 years to a near-white ivory — bright, clean, and luminous. The central medallion and surrounding floral forms are still present, but only just — rendered now in the softest possible taupe, barely distinguishable from the field itself. The pattern does not announce itself. It dissolves into the surface, visible only to those who look closely and patiently.
This is a rug for someone who understands that the most beautiful things are often the quietest. The contrast between the vivid brown border and the near-white, ghost-patterned field creates a composition that is simple, architectural, and deeply satisfying.
The wool surface is very low and heavily worn — flat underfoot, honest in its age, and full of the kind of quiet character that only time can create.
