✦ THE STORY BEHIND THIS RUG
This rug was woven by a woman.
Not in a factory. Not by machine. But by hand — on a loom, at home, in a village in Anatolia. Decades ago, Turkish women wove these rugs either to furnish their own homes or to contribute to the family's income. Each pattern was chosen by the weaver herself, each knot tied with her own hands. No two rugs were ever identical, because no two women wove the same way.
We source these rugs directly from old homes and private collectors across Turkey — places where these pieces have rested for 40, 50, sometimes 60 years. When we find one, it begins a journey before it reaches you.
First, we shake out decades of dust. Then we carefully shear the pile — what we call "hav" in Turkish — to bring the surface back to an even, clean finish. The rug is then washed and goes through a series of restoration steps. Finally, the edges are hand-stitched to ensure it arrives in your home structurally sound and ready to use.
What you receive is not just a rug. It is a one-of-a-kind textile that survived decades, was made by someone's hands, and was carefully prepared to live another chapter — in your home.
You will never find another exactly like it.
✦ ABOUT THIS RUG
This Isparta rug was hand-knotted in 1982 in the Isparta region of southwestern Turkey — a tradition renowned for its tight knotting, durable natural wool, and refined classical compositions.
The design is an all-over botanical leaf and lotus pattern — a bold, large-scale repeat of symmetrical leaf forms arranged in a continuous geometric lattice across the entire field, with no dominant medallion and no structured border. The pattern has a strong organic energy: each leaf cluster mirrors the next, creating a rhythm that is both dynamic and deeply calming.
The palette is what makes this rug truly special. The original green tones — likely a deep forest or teal green when first woven — have faded over four decades into a soft, dusty sage: part green, part gray, part mist. The ivory-cream ground has bleached naturally with age. The result is a color combination that sits perfectly within the current appetite for earthy, nature-inspired interiors — sage green, warm ivory, and organic texture. This is not a color you can order. It is a color that only time can create.
The surface shows natural abrash — subtle tonal shifts across the field caused by decades of uneven light exposure. This is an authentic characteristic of aged hand-dyed wool, not a flaw.
