This white ivory and warm sand area rug was woven in 1988 — entirely by hand, using pure wool and the timeless Isparta technique. Every curl of the scrolling vine, every tiny leaf and flower, every crossing of the trellis was knotted one thread at a time. The entire field is covered in a continuous allover scrolling vine — delicate stems bearing small floral and leaf motifs, repeating endlessly from edge to edge with no border, no beginning, no end.
For over thirty-five years the pile has worn nearly completely flat — and in doing so has revealed the truest version of this rug. The white has deepened into warm ivory. The sand has softened into something between caramel and cream. The pattern floats on the surface now like frost on glass — present but barely there, visible only when the light catches it at the right angle.
This is a rug for those who understand that the quietest things are often the most beautiful.
