This rug was woven by a woman.
Not in a factory. Not by machine. But by hand — on a loom, at home, in a village in Anatolia. Decades ago, Turkish women wove these rugs either to furnish their own homes or to contribute to the family's income. Each pattern was chosen by the weaver herself, each knot tied with her own hands. No two rugs were ever identical, because no two women wove the same way.

We source these rugs directly from old homes and private collectors across Turkey — places where these pieces have rested for 40, 50, sometimes 60 years. When we find one, it begins a journey before it reaches you.

First, we shake out decades of dust. Then we carefully shear the pile — what we call "hav" in Turkish — to bring the surface back to an even, clean finish. The rug is then washed and goes through a series of restoration steps. Finally, the edges are hand-stitched to ensure it arrives in your home structurally sound and ready to use.
What you receive is not just a rug. It is a one-of-a-kind textile that survived decades, was made by someone's hands, and was carefully prepared to live another chapter — in your home.

✦ ABOUT THIS RUG
This runner comes from Isparta, one of Turkey's most storied rug-weaving regions. The design is centered around a large diamond medallion filled with intricate floral and scroll details in terracotta and ivory, framed by a generous open field and a richly decorated lower border panel with swirling leaf and flower motifs.

What makes this piece special is its color. Decades of sunlight and use have washed the original terracotta and rose tones into a soft blush-peach — a natural process that cannot be replicated. The upper field has faded almost entirely to bare ivory, while the medallion and border retain their warmth. This gradient effect, from deep to pale, gives the rug an ethereal, worn-in quality that is extremely sought after in vintage interiors right now.

The rug is in distressed condition consistent with age — low pile, significant fading, but structurally sound with no tears or repairs.

✦ THE MEANING BEHIND THE PATTERN
The diamond medallion is one of the oldest symbols in Anatolian weaving. In Turkish tradition, the medallion represents the center of the universe — the point from which all life radiates outward. Weavers placed it at the heart of their rugs as a form of protection, a blessing woven into the floor of the home.

The lower border panel of this rug carries dense floral scrollwork — a motif associated with paradise gardens in Islamic artistic tradition. The woman who wove this was not just making a floor covering. She was building a world, knot by knot, that she hoped would shelter the people she loved.
