This rug was woven by a woman.
Not in a factory. Not by machine. But by hand — on a loom, at home, in a village in Anatolia. Decades ago, Turkish women wove these rugs either to furnish their own homes or to contribute to the family's income. Each pattern was chosen by the weaver herself, each knot tied with her own hands. No two rugs were ever identical, because no two women wove the same way.
We source these rugs directly from old homes and private collectors across Turkey — places where these pieces have rested for 40, 50, sometimes 60 years. When we find one, it begins a journey before it reaches you.
First, we shake out decades of dust. Then we carefully shear the pile — what we call "hav" in Turkish — to bring the surface back to an even, clean finish. The rug is then washed and goes through a series of restoration steps. Finally, the edges are hand-stitched to ensure it arrives in your home structurally sound and ready to use.
What you receive is not just a rug. It is a one-of-a-kind textile that survived decades, was made by someone's hands, and was carefully prepared to live another chapter — in your home.

✦ ABOUT THIS RUG
This is not a patterned rug. It was woven this way — solid, intentional, without medallion or border. In Anatolian weaving tradition, solid-ground rugs were among the most technically demanding to produce: without a pattern to guide the eye, every knot had to be perfect, every row even, the pile consistent from edge to edge.
The color is a warm olive green — the color of dried sage, of lichen on stone, of the Anatolian hillside in late summer. Up close, the pile reveals ivory and cream knot bases where the wool has worn to its natural undyed state, creating a subtle two-tone texture that catches light differently depending on the angle. This is not a flat, uniform color — it lives and shifts.
The rug is in good distressed condition — low pile, natural wear consistent with age, structurally sound.

A rug without pattern is its own kind of statement. In a tradition where every surface was filled with symbol and meaning, choosing to weave plain was itself a choice — a meditation on material, texture, and color as sufficient in themselves.
