✦ THE STORY BEHIND THIS RUG
This rug was woven by a woman.
Not in a factory. Not by machine. But by hand — on a loom, at home, in a village in Anatolia. Decades ago, Turkish women wove these rugs either to furnish their own homes or to contribute to the family's income. Each pattern was chosen by the weaver herself, each knot tied with her own hands. No two rugs were ever identical, because no two women wove the same way.
We source these rugs directly from old homes and private collectors across Turkey — places where these pieces have rested for 40, 50, sometimes 60 years. When we find one, it begins a journey before it reaches you.
First, we shake out decades of dust. Then we carefully shear the pile — what we call "hav" in Turkish — to bring the surface back to an even, clean finish. The rug is then washed and goes through a series of restoration steps. Finally, the edges are hand-stitched to ensure it arrives in your home structurally sound and ready to use.
What you receive is not just a rug. It is a one-of-a-kind textile that survived decades, was made by someone's hands, and was carefully prepared to live another chapter — in your home.
You will never find another exactly like it.
✦ ABOUT THIS RUG
This small rug is cut from a larger Isparta carpet, with all edges carefully finished. Unlike the other cut pieces in our collection, this one retains more of its original color — the pinks are still warm and present, the navy accents still sharp, the ivory-beige ground still clean and bright. It sits at a lovely middle point between faded vintage and fresh — aged enough to have character, vibrant enough to anchor a room.
The design is an allover repeating rosette grid — large eight-petal flower medallions arranged in a diagonal lattice across the entire field. Alternating between open ivory blooms with navy star centers and fuller pink rosettes with beige petals, the pattern creates a rhythmic, almost tile-like effect that feels both traditional and contemporary.
The rug is in good distressed condition — low to medium pile, moderate natural fading, structurally sound with finished edges.
✦ THE MEANING BEHIND THE PATTERN
The rosette — "gül" in Turkish, meaning both rose and flower — is one of the most beloved motifs in Anatolian weaving. In Turkish tradition, the eight-petal rosette represents completeness and the cycle of life, its symmetry reflecting the order of the natural world.
The alternating colors in this grid — pink and ivory, navy and beige — create a visual rhythm that Anatolian weavers understood intuitively: contrast and harmony, side by side, as in life itself. The woman who wove the original carpet repeated this pattern hundreds of times across its surface. Each repetition was an act of patience, of care, of faith that beauty is worth the time it takes to make it.
