This rug was woven by a woman.

Decades ago, Turkish women wove these rugs either to furnish their own homes or to contribute to the family's income. Each pattern was chosen by the weaver herself, each knot tied with her own hands. No two rugs were ever identical, because no two women wove the same way.

We source these rugs directly from old homes and private collectors across Turkey — places where these pieces have rested for 40, 50, sometimes 60 years. When we find one, it begins a journey before it reaches you.

First, we shake out decades of dust. Then we carefully shear the pile — what we call "hav" in Turkish — to bring the surface back to an even, clean finish. The rug is then washed and goes through a series of restoration steps. Finally, the edges are hand-stitched to ensure it arrives in your home structurally sound and ready to use.

This rug was hand-knotted in Isparta — one of Turkey's most celebrated rug-weaving cities — and dates to 1981, making it approximately 45 years old. Isparta rugs are known for their fine knotting, precise geometric compositions, and the enduring quality of their Anatolian wool.

The field is a warm, faded beige — golden and luminous, aged beautifully over four decades. Across the entire surface runs a repeating geometric floral grid: symmetrical star and cross motifs in terracotta red, connected by flowing vine arabesques and punctuated with small navy blue accents. The pattern is organized and rhythmic, yet warm and organic — a combination that is distinctly Anatolian. The border is warm beige with a repeating cloud-scroll motif that frames the composition with quiet elegance.
The overall effect is warm, grounded, and deeply inviting — a rug that feels like it has always belonged in a home.

✦ THE MEANING BEHIND THE PATTERN
The repeating geometric floral grid on this rug belongs to one of the oldest traditions in Anatolian weaving. Unlike medallion rugs that draw the eye to a single center, a repeating grid distributes meaning equally across the entire field — every motif is as important as every other. In Turkish weaving culture, this kind of composition carries a specific message: abundance without hierarchy, blessing without condition.

The star motif — rendered here in warm terracotta — is one of the most ancient symbols in Anatolian textile tradition. It represents light, guidance, and protection. In many Turkish villages, the eight-pointed star was believed to ward off harm and bring good fortune into the home. The cross forms that connect the stars speak of the four directions — north, south, east, west — suggesting that this protection extends to every corner of the home, every direction of life.
