✦ THE STORY BEHIND THIS RUG
This rug was woven by a woman.
Not in a factory. Not by machine. But by hand — on a loom, at home, in a village in Anatolia. Decades ago, Turkish women wove these rugs either to furnish their own homes or to contribute to the family's income. Each pattern was chosen by the weaver herself, each knot tied with her own hands. No two rugs were ever identical, because no two women wove the same way.
We source these rugs directly from old homes and private collectors across Turkey — places where these pieces have rested for 40, 50, sometimes 60 years. When we find one, it begins a journey before it reaches you.
First, we shake out decades of dust. Then we carefully shear the pile — what we call "hav" in Turkish — to bring the surface back to an even, clean finish. The rug is then washed and goes through a series of restoration steps. Finally, the edges are hand-stitched to ensure it arrives in your home structurally sound and ready to use.
What you receive is not just a rug. It is a one-of-a-kind textile that survived decades, was made by someone's hands, and was carefully prepared to live another chapter — in your home.
You will never find another exactly like it.
✦ ABOUT THIS RUG
This runner was hand-knotted in Isparta — one of Turkey's most celebrated rug-weaving cities — and dates to the 1980s, making it approximately 40 years old. Isparta rugs are known for their fine knotting, dramatic medallion compositions, and the enduring quality of their Anatolian wool.
The field is a deeply faded crimson red — rich and complex, aged beautifully over four decades. At the center sits a large, ornate floral medallion in ivory and slate blue, radiating outward with botanical details and scrolling vine accents. At both ends, bold ivory border panels filled with floral and geometric motifs frame the composition — giving this runner a structured, complete look that is rare in this format.
The distress is honest and even — low pile, natural fading, and a surface that tells the story of a rug that has truly lived.
✦ THE MEANING BEHIND THE PATTERN
Red is the most powerful color in the Anatolian weaving tradition. It is the color of life, of fire, of the force that keeps a home alive and warm. In Turkish village rugs, a red field was never a casual choice — it was a declaration that the home where this rug was laid was full of vitality and protected from harm.
The large central medallion on this crimson field is the axis of the rug's world — the still point from which all beauty radiates. In Turkish tradition, the medallion represents divine light and cosmic order. Here, rendered in soft ivory against the deep red, it glows like a lantern in the dark — warm, grounding, and full of intention.
The ivory border panels at each end complete the composition. They say: here is where this world begins, and here is where it ends. Between those borders, everything is protected.
In your hallway, that protection travels with every step.
